The Cubs won tonight. The Brewers lost.

This means that the Cubs are tied for first in the NL Central.

I will enjoy it whilst I can.

Despite my actual sports allegiance (see icon), I am perennially rooting for the Cubs to win the World Series. The Sox (both colors) were reprieved from their decades-long dry spells; it's time for the little bears to get their turn.

The year the Red Sox won, the Cubs were in it until the very end of the season. There was hope of a Cubs-Red Sox Series, which really would have signalled the End Times.

I grew up a Mets fan, btw. I remember 1969.

Oh, that's right, that was the same year!

But the Cubbie's collapse there really demonstrated their collective problem: bad sports psychology. (The Mets have the same problem.)

I remain convinced that the reason the Yankees perennially do well is that when they hit a slump or something heartbreaking happens, they collectively shake it off. Look at the current situation: A-Rod is floundering about with the 500 HR monkey on his back, and the rest of the team suddenly have supersonic bats.

I think the Yanks collectively shake it off because they'd have Steinbrenner on their asses if they didn't.

I would really like Mark Cuban to buy the Cubs.
