I have a cold. It's not a bad cold, but it's there. Scratchy/sore throat. Some sneezing. Nose running a bit. Just worn down enough so that run of the mill stuff requires a little effort. Throat's at the grabby stage, where the tickle's enough to drive you crazy, which usually means we're on the downside. Here's hoping I'm ok by Monday. Here's hoping I'm ok sooner than that, because every time I cough, King has to rush over and find out why I made that sound. A muffled cough must mean something else in Dog because every time he hears it, it's as though it's the first time. It gets his attention.

ENDGAME galleys arrived a couple of days ago. They are indeed quite spiff. Page proofs have been gone over and pages with errors shipped off to Eos. (EDIT: many thanks to the proofreader. these pages were in much better shape. Minor slips, including one sentence fragment that slipped under everyone's radar for months, mine included)

That means I'm well and truly done with this one. I can work on other things with a clear head. Set up the office wireless. Clean the office. Clean the linen closet. Make a big pot o' veggie chili.

I made scones yesterday. Summer Berry Scones, the recipe courtesy of the Dannon Vanilla Yogurt container.

They're good. Lighter than I expected, considering they contain almost a full stick of butter. Why low fat yogurt when you're adding all that butter? Why bother? Oh well, they're still pretty good with Earl Grey tea, cream cheese, and some of Blackberry Earl Grey preserves made by [livejournal.com profile] cmpriest's supplier, whose LJ moniker slips my mind.

Now I want scones. Argh!

Come to think of it, I have Dannon vanilla yogurt in my fridge, I should check for the recipe!

They're more cobbler-y than scone-y--I don't think I kneaded the dough enough, but it was brutally sticky and coated my hands every time I picked it up.

Ugh--well, they're photogenic anyway.

Oh, they're still good. Surprisingly light.

The dough was just hard to work with.

Mmmmmm. Scones. I'd make some this weekend, but Lyndon can't eat them and it's not fair to tease him.

Like I said upstream, they remind me of cobbles. Maybe not as biscuit-y. But I admit I have limited experience with scones, and didn't know what to expect.

Why can't Lyndon eat them?

Lyndon was diagnosed with diabetes in March -- he's done a bang-up job of sticking to his diet and has lost 40 pounds so far, but it means his carb intake is strictly prohibited and most baked goods are not allowed.
