Events of the last few days:

Had new permanent retainer put in. We've gone from a largish piece of silver metal to a thin gold wire. Orthodontist's office was of the modern, "we're doing quite well, thank you" variety. Modern layout, HDTV in a multichair space where orthodontist can walk from chair to chair as techs do prep work. My xrays were taken while I stood in front of a machine--one of the digital ones you mentioned, [livejournal.com profile] daveamongus. They fitted me in a head restraint, then the scanner rotated around me and took a panoramic shot of my teeth. It was all done in about 10-15 seconds. Beats clamping down on hard plastic cards.

After a month on gall bladder meds, Mickey had his repeat bloodwork. Liver enzyme is just about back to normal--now we need to decide what to do next. Vet wants to see whether a low-fat, lower protein diet will eliminate the need for meds, so after I get back from Wiscon, I will commence diet-switching.

My allergies are really bad this Spring.

Need to start pulling things together for Wiscon--leaving for Madison on Thursday, back on Tuesday. Right now, I'm going through the "why can't I just stay home? I'd get so much done if I could just stay home," feeling that I get before every trip. I am not one of the world's great travelers, even when I'm only driving a few hours. And I really, really hate to pack.

A lot of dentists these days are shooting for that modern, super-comfy, "spa-like" environments in the hopes that you somehow manage to forget that someone is jamming sharp metal instruments, some spinning at 9 billion RPM, into your mouth. HDTVs, wireless headphones, hot towels... I've even got one client who has someone doing manicures and pedicures in her lobby.

Kinda wild.

That is wild. My regular dentist still has a old-fashioned kind of office. Some openwork between chairs, but still some privacy. A toy corner for little kids seems to be his only concession, but wil a one-man/one-tech office, you don't want people sitting around and waiting. Sign of bad planning, that.

Funny--going to the dentist never bothered me. Hate the regular doctor visit, but even with wisdom tooth pulling and needles, the dentist? *shrug*

I need to pack, and I'm already dithering over the "bring laptop y/n?" question. Plus, of course, I'm flying, and the only thing I hate worse than packing is packing for a plane trip.

Trying to figure out how to pack for the con & weather in Madison without bringing the ginormous suitcase, but I think that's going to be a lost cause.

On the plus side, they've posted the programming schedule on their website and it looks like it will be a great time, once I get there.

My allergies are super-bad this season too. So is just about everyone else I talk to. Bah.

I go through the same thing when I plan to go somewhere. As the day approaches I wish I wasn't going. Don't know why...although yeah, I think a large part is leaving the cats behind and having someone else going in and out of my house. If it wasn't for that I'd be ok and probably travel a lot more.

yes, I am having the 'oh why did I decide to go to Wiscon' voice, too - although in my case much of it is the beastly long trip, including an overnight flight (unavoidable).

Yeah, I had that about Thursday (the "let's just stay home and eat ice cream" fit). Now I am in the "ohmigod travel in a few days NOT READY" bit.

Soon comes acceptance. *g*

[livejournal.com profile] 1minnesotagirl leaves for Wiscon Tuesday. If you get a chance, look her up. Carla is a mondo interesting person, currently working on a historical novel. Since she made more money with her last historical than I made on 3 SF novels, this seems wise. She has an interesting SF novel finished and a thriller some editors are finding too scary, so we need to find her an agent who sells in more than one genre.

You will know her by her new, bright red Prius!

Have fun and sell lots --
