Tuesday. Ok.

Yesterday, Kuro's Check Engine light went on and stayed on, even though the gas tank was full and the cap was cranked down so hard that I have trouble opening it. I'll be taking him in for service on Thursday. I hope it's the cap or a hose, something simple and cheap.

I spent part of the evening culling the closet for a clothing drive. One purse, five pairs of shoes, and many clothes later--jeans. khakis, and a couple of casual suits--I have more room in the closet, but it's still a mess, filled with things that are ok-but-not-great and a few things I wear to death. I know the rule is that you should get rid of clothes/shoes if you haven't worn them in a year, and I'm actively breaking that one. I have things I haven't worn in 5-6 years or more, dress suits that are classic enough to still be in style but that I need to lose weight to fit into. So I'll lose 15 pounds, try them on, and if they fit, then I'll decide to get rid of them. It's like I can't let them have the last laugh. I'll get rid of them because I want to, not because I have to.

Yeah, I know. The line for that neurosis forms over there.

Still haven't started on tax stuff. The goal is to ship it out on Monday. I could start tonight, and do a little at a time, and be done. Or I could wait until Friday night and add that frisson of irritated panic to the mix. Guess which option I'll pick?

I know whereof you speak with regard to cleaning out the closet. A couple of months back, I did a purge and donated 2 bags of clothes to the Society for the Blind. Well, they're pickign up again on April 2, and I expect to have at least another bag or two for them. And I know the feeling about keeping stuff I don't fit into anymore. Hope springs eternal. ::grin::

I think I could toss half my closet and not miss it--pullovers in blah colors, pants that fit but don't look great, or that don't match any of my shirts/tops.

Then there's this dress... I haven't worn a dress in about six years. I have worn this dress once, probably 10 years ago. It's a garden party-type thing with short sleeves and a flowing, mid-calf skirt. Black and white flowers, more muted than it sounds since black is the dominant color. Not my style, but I'm loathe to get rid of it. I like it.

There's still room to toss. This was the first pass. I Will Be Ruthless.

Yeah.

Maybe we should swap? This stuff is always more interesting when you're doing someone else's stuff rather than your own.

I also need to do my taxes and go through my closet to chuck out stuff I haven't worn in a while. My rule of thumb is three years though, because I can always convince myself that the reason I didn't wear the garment in question is that the season was hotter/colder/wetter/dryer than normal, and that the garment will be perfect next time that season comes around.

It is, isn't it? You can be more ruthless with someone else's stuff because you don't bring all the baggage to the project.
