On a fannish-related note: While reading your books, both my wife and I decided that you must have spent some time in the Quality / Validations department at your company. The whole "worship the document" kind of mentality certainly is true for those departments in both the pharma company she works for as well as the consumer products company I work for. Note: This is not a good or bad thing, just a general thing. So, if you don't mind answering, were we right?
Pretty much. I've worked for a major pharma company for almost 20 years. "If it isn't written down, it didn't happen." I've spent my time in QC labs, product development and production support, but the feeling toward documentation is the same.
