I've decided I'm taking a Snow Day tomorrow. We're on the edge of the snow/sleet line up here, and I will either wake up to 4-6" of snow, or 2-3" of snow over a nice layer of ice. Given that it will be precip'ing all the night long, the salters and plows aren't likely to keep up, and I don't want to slide into a ditch on the way to work, so hell with it. Roads will be in much better shape on Tuesday.

Endgame revisions continue. Close to 3500 words today, mostly new stuff with some old tucked in. Not done with this chapter yet, but I may leave it until morning. I'll spend the morning writing, and the afternoon clearing my driveway.

Editor had recommended shortening/speeding up the front part of the book, and by gum, I think I have. The first big gutwrench now will occur in Chapter 10 instead of 14, approx 76 manuscript pages sooner. I was hoping for a hundred-page excision, but 76 gets me into the mid-600's, page count wise. A much better place to be. I'm a little nonplussed that with a month to go, I still have 3/4 of a book to revise, but I keep telling myself that the first quarter was in the worst shape. It should go faster from here. It should. Really.

What would I do for fun if I didn't paint myself into corners?

And now a snippet, featuring Niall Pierce, former smuggler:

He cracked the tip and took a long pull as he slumped against the doorway. "I know enough about John to fill in the rest. Cao wants him out of Neoclona. I'm surprised it took her this long. What's Parini's role?"

"Stunned bystander." Jani stifled another yawn. "They let him come here to inform John only after the legal surgery had already started. Now he's hiding out in the Main House, trying to pretend he's just visiting and not having much luck."

"If he fights to defend John, he's out, and Cao hands the whole Easter egg over to Eamon DeVries, third in line and incipient gutter sot." Niall sneered, his scarred lip curling to reveal a pointed canine. "Here's your choice, boy. We destroy you a little or we destroy you a lot." Another pull, a drift of smoke. "Smuggling was cleaner. When you overstepped, they just shot you."
