A birthday

As has been reported elsewhere, today is David Bowie's 60th birthday.

I've been a fan of his since he was 26.

Do you have any idea how terrifying this is?

But doesn't it mean you're dedicated to his art too?

Yes, but...it's a jolt. I remember The Midnight Special. The first "music video" I ever saw was "Jean Genie". The music of my formative years was sung by this skinny English guy with a carrot red toilet brush hairdo. Who at certain angles was pretty damned hot.

Like I said, it's a jolt.

Sad to say most of the things or groups I used to like arent even a group any more.

I've lost track of the number of groups I've come to like after they've broken up for good or their lead singer/creative force died. This goes along with my not getting into TV shows until they're cancelled/over, such as Buffy.

Ah but Buffy and its spin off Angel are worth it.

Here honey--lean on my cane...

Um, yes, I do!

Tell me Charlie Watts isn't over 70. Please?

[identity profile] moon-happy.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
Ha! He's not. He's 65, but that's not helping much.

I feel your pain.

It's the rheumatiz...

Did we need to know this? ARGGHHH!

[identity profile] kristine-smith.livejournal.com 2007-01-09 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe not. But I needed to spread it around.

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2007-01-09 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok, I can deal with that. ;^)

It just seems wrong, somehow, that the Goblin King is getting older. (Unlike Mick Jagger, who has looked like a piece of shrunken leather for years.)

I saw Bowie perform 3 years (yikes--already?) ago. As good as he looks in photos, he looks better in person. Just Too Cool to Live.

With Robert Plant gone, he's the unchallenged Style King...

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
...and probably the most creative musical artist alive -- others follow in his footsteps and create waves of new categories while he's running off to start something else.

Where did Plant go? He's still around, isn't he?

Funny--Plant is the Eternal Hippie to me. Maybe I don't put them in the same category because I'm not a big Plant fan, but Bowie will always have it all over him, imho.

Although apparently he's a copycat. Mick Jagger was quoted as saying "Don't wear a new pair of shoes around him."

Okay -- I *think* it was Plant. Who was the other rock singer who wore the great suits in his videos? Died hysterically young a couple of years ago. Just having breakfast with his longtime girlfriend and keeled over. Now I can't remember one of his big songs...lights on but no one's home....

Bowie and he would trade off every other year for "best dressed rocker".

Robert Palmer. "Addicted to Love," etc...

I really liked him, but he aged so fast.

You're right -- Palmer. The "substitute another word starting with the same letter and close but not exact in meaning" syndrome strikes again.

Yes -- his genes or hard living did tell more in his face, sort of like Rod Stewart.

Why can't they age like Tony Bennett?! ;^)
