Starting over
Dec. 22nd, 2006 05:35 pmBeginnings are hard.
I haven't done as much as I likely should have on ENDGAME this past few weeks. I should say that I haven't been kicking out pages. I have been going over things in my head, thinking about where it winds up and therefore what needs to be accented and emphasized at the start. The front needs to be reworked, gobs excised and the remains streamlined. But this all starts in the second chapter, which means that on top of the excision and streamlining, things still need to be set up and explained. The set-up of the political situation is always hard. It's always a mess and I need to feed it out while avoiding infodumps. Simple things, like descriptions of characters and surroundings. All the personal relationships. That heave-ho down the luge ramp, building momentum until everyone piles in the sled and the thing can move forward on its own.
It's slow at this point. And everyone's wearing those funny clothes...
