Things done

Today was the day for doing all those things that didn't get done last week due to the blizzard.

Went to the hardware Big Box for furnace filters, walnut woodstain, and garbage bags, and wound up with a lighted leaping stag for the front yard, as well as a reflector for alongside the driveway with a housing in the shape of a snowman. Brought that all home, then it was off to the feed store for two bales of bedding straw, which should see King into next winter. Wrestled one bale into the bale bag, then dumped the other into the appliance box that serves quite well as a storage bin for the mix of straw and cedar chips that serves as King's bedding.

Made some new acquaintances at the feed store. First there was Anastasia, the shop cat, who sat so still and quiet on the counter that I didn't notice her until I was ready to leave. I don't know cat breeds, but she was a lovely medium grey with moss green eyes, and accepted chin skritches with quiet dignity.

Then I looked into a cage beside the counter, and saw a tiny face poking out from beneath a muddle of exercise ball and bundled blanket. It proved to be a small ferret, which the storekeeper was caring for until she found it a new home. It was a sweet looking little thing, and according to the storekeeper likes to be hugged and petted. But I'm a pretty basic person, pet-wise. Dogs, cats ifIweren'tallergic. Horses, if I rode. The more exotic animals just don't float my boat, which is my way of saying that no, I wasn't in the least tempted.

Hope the little sucker finds a good home soon.

So, it's after 4pm and the sky is dulling--hate these short days. The stag has been installed next to the other lawn ornaments, the two Christmas trees and the penguin. The furnace filter has been changed. King has fresh bedding.

Tired now. Should write for a few hours, really.

Sounds like you had a productive day. Mine was less so. Let's see... we picked up the bags of chips the kid needs for her Girl Scout holiday party on Tuesday (as the troops' mostly Jewish, they're not calling it by any specific holiday ;-). I looked at sweaters at Target, but the only one I found that I liked was much too thin. I was looking for something that might actually, y'know, be a little warm. Oh. Well. Went from there to Claire's where the kid found a holiday themed barrette under $5 for the party (they do a sort of grab bag gift exchange). She and I cleaned up on half price earrings, too. :-) I got some holiday ones because I like to wear them to work and annoy people with the bells for a while. :-) She found some pretty clips that suit her.

B&N had the pleasure of our company, and the kid's money, when she bought her dad's Christmas presents. (They were sold out of your books. ;-)

Oh, and we picked up some sugar cubes and Dove bar soap so she can use them to build a model of a Spanish mission for extra credit in Texas History. Should be interesting tomorrow.

This evening was mother-daughter time wherein we watched Legally Blond on tv and then popped in the DVD of the sequel and watched that.

Maybe I can get some words down tonight. We'll see.
