I suppose this route is cheaper than the even newer super-dooper high efficiency furnaces that vent out pvc pipes to the side of the house. Still, sounds like expensive, especially this time of (cough cough emergency repair surcharge) year in the frigid north.
I have woodburning fireplaces, which is why the furnace was vented through a chimney rather than a pipe to the side of the house.
The super high efficency furnace that was available 6 or so years ago, when I had the existing unit installed, cost 2-2.5x the unit I wound up buying. G
