It's cool and rainy. Squirrels are still insane. I saw one bury a nut in the mop-end of a mopstick I left out on the deck--it just shoved the nut in there, then patted the strands back into place.

I've really hated the last few rounds of Hummer commercials. The ones where the wimps--a man who buys veggies and lets himself be one-upped by the guy buying slabs of ribs, and the woman who lets another woman's kid butt in front of hers in the playground line--get their glands back by buying Hummers. I also thought that the one where the dad and his kids release candle-heated mini-hot air balloons in a desolate wilderness area was kind of irresponsible given the number of wildfires we've had in recent years.

But, I really liked the H3 commercial that I think premiered today. Background music is the theme from The Great Escape. Bunch of guys trying to break out of the office for the weekend. I especially like the gate guard who looks like Steve McQueen and is bouncing a baseball off the inside of his guard shack as the H3 speeds through the gate. Organized insanity--always a hit with me.

Still writing. Closing in on 5000 words so far this weekend. I'd like a few more.

Two and a half weeks to go. And the Incident edits may show up this week just to add to the insanity.

Hummer drivers are the types who will downshift to pass a 30 year old electric bus to make an illegal left turn against the light.

And I've never ever seen one off the pavement, anywhere.

That said, if they made a small pickup sized Hummer with the incredible suspension and ground clearance of the original Hummer, I would be interested. My understanding is that the H3 sucks amazingly off road and handles about as well as a mid-sized U-Haul truck...*cues up Porsche and Elephant joke*

The Hummers I've seen around here are polished and chromed up the wazoo. I've never seen one that looked like it had been driven in the rain, much less off road.

My Forester is supposedly off road-capable, but it's so low to the ground--not quite as low as a car, but close--that I would be loathe to risk it.

I hit a series of grooved bumps with the F150 a few months ago, and experienced the joy of almost losing control of the rear--the bumps were just far enough apart that the backend levitated.

I've heard that nothing can beat a Land Rover/Range Rover for off road. But they leak fluids like colanders and the maintenance costs could break you.

The Forester is pretty good for near off-roading, in the hands of a skilled driver. I don't typically go off-road, but I do get on some bad dirt tracks that may require some combination of 4WD and high clearance and skilled operation (which can make up somewhat for the lack of the other two).

Rear wheel drive with a light back end can be fun, eh?

Probably the most useful 4WD I've had was a Ford Escape (small SUV) short wheelbase so less high-centering issues, small and maneuverable (turning around when I got to place the road had actually washed out, rather than the preceding trapping of a gully washer.

That icon is so precious.

Hummers. I like them but I'm morally opposed to them on behalf of the environment, unless they run on biodiesel. :/ I haven't actually seen any of their commercials though.

Thanks! I was searching for Rainy Days images to turn into icons, and found it online.

I have a pick-up, so I can't get too uppity about environmental impact. I just don't care for Hummers because they're ugly.
