By the time Jani shook off Galas and departed the library, her expected escort had vanished. She stepped out onto the walkway and looked over the railing to find Dieter watching her from his office entry one floor below. "So the storm's gathering down there, is it?"
Dieter cocked his head. "Jani?"
Jani couldn’t help but smile. The last time Dieter had played that dumb, he'd gone on to aid and abet her kidnapping on Elyas Station. "I'll be right down." She could sense him watch her as she circled to the stairway and headed down, could imagine the conversation that had taken place a few minutes before. Don’t let her think she's being cornered, John or Niall would have said. Let her think it's her decision to come here. Don't flush the animal. Let her walk into the trap herself.
