Best Bowie lyric ever:
"It's not the side effects of the cocaine
I'm thinking that it must be love."
Ran a mile for the first time in about a month.
As you know, Bob,
kaygo got New! and Improved! running shoes last month that were supposed to alleviate her burgeoning Achilles tendon issues. Well, the first time I ran 2 miles in the new shoes, my heels felt great, as in no pain, burning, swelling. I was psyched. Could my first 5K be in my sights?
Second time I ran two miles...things didn't go so great. New burning sensations in new areas of both tendons, including the insertion points, which from what I've read points to issues with the tendons themselves more than shoes. So I iced, rested and laid off for a time. Found that I couldn't wear some of my street shoes anymore because my heels had become sensitized and couldn't bear the pressure. Yea.
After some off time, tried walking. Still some sensation, but not as severe. Then came a layoff as I plowed into Incident and J5. Noted that over that time, the nodule on my right heel grew smaller, and some stiffness eased/disappeared.
So I decided to throw myself into the breach tonight. Felt incredibly grumpy when I started the run. Found after I finished that my mood had elevated significantly. I'm not saying that 15 minutes at 4.2 mph is enough to give me a runner's high, but it does make me feel good, which is a big reason why the heel issue bummed me so. I like this, and I want to get better at it.
Gonna go ice my heels now, just to play it safe. I feel good and pathetically middle-aged at the same time.
