Neither can four critiquers.

Sent out the patchwork draft of Incident to beta readers (including [livejournal.com profile] dancinghorse, who like, does this for folks, and Madame Agent, and a couple of other folks who I will mention by name if they don't mind, but won't if they'd rather I didn't), and received comments back today.

Boy, I hate it when my instincts are right. Boy, I love it when my instincts are right. The story drags where I thought it dragged, and a few things that I thought weren't clear, well darnit, they ain't. Much appreciation for the comments about things that did work. Even more appreciation for the comments about the things that didn't.

And the Big Issue that concerned me can apparently be chalked up to Writer's Paranoia, because no one mentioned it. Yes, sometimes you can fret yourself into a fetal position in a corner of the closet.

Will mull for a few days, then get out the axe, scalpel, and sandpaper and have at it.

Ok. A few first readers of books past have told me that they didn't want to be acknowledged by name.

So, thanks, [livejournal.com profile] mcurry!
