Found out a couple of weeks ago that my current manager, who has been my manager for only a couple of months, is leaving the company. This won't leave me exactly rudderless. Just another data point in the interesting exercise that has been this reorganization.
In addition to the three job apps I have outstanding, I applied for another a couple of days ago. In this case, I know the hiring manager, so I phoned her today and told her I was interested in the position, and that I had applied. She sounded receptive, and said that she felt I was qualified. After I spoke with her, I phoned a friend who works for her, doing the same type of job for which I'd applied. She gave me lots of positive info about the department, which was nice to hear. Hope I get an interview for this spot.
Work around the house continues. The junk guy came yesterday and took the last truckload out of the garage. Only some organizing and shelf-building to go, and it will be a well-ordered space empty enough to park in. A miracle.
Wondering whether or not I should have an addition put on the house--a master suite with full bath, along with a revamped entry. I made a list of all the things I would like to have done about the place, and a scary thing it is. New driveway. Repair roof and floor of garage. Redo the current bathroom. Refinish the kitchen cabinets, install new countertops and backsplash. Install baseboards that were never done after the hardwood floor was put in--long story. Remove some trees. Real blue sky stuff--install cedar storage closets in the working half of the basement (the side with the washer/dryer), install a half-bath, and finish the half with the fireplace into some sort of rec room/family room.
Yes, I have a fireplace in my basement. Go figure.
I really think that my usual 'clean my office before I start the new book' compulsion has expanded to include the entire house.
