I play. Primarily 5 card draw or Texas Hold'em. My boyfriend plays hold'em and 7 card stud, rather more seriously. If you would like a poker pro, I'm sure we can find you one of those.

Well, you could start by a quick tour of Hoyle for the basic rules. Then I'd ask for stories from folks about "house rules" which tend to throw the entire book out the window. I could see this being a problem/conflict with multiple dimensions.

There's the professional poker games on ESPN. I'm sure there are a few decent poker movies out there (http://www.pokertop10.com/poker_movies.html).

Finally, I think you need to add another convention to your calendar this summer and your fans should host a gentleman's game of poker in your honor and for your participation. To be self-serving Shore Leave (http://www.shore-leave.com/) is close to me... (chuckle)

Well, the problem is that I don't have time to do much research. Because I want to write the scene this weekend.

I know the bare bones of 5-card. And given that this is The Future (tm), I can probably tweak things.

Probably for the same reason one of my characters plays golf, a game of which I know nothing. :)

Golf, well...

I've played it. Joined the day job golf league for a few years. A set of clubs is even now moldering in my basement. Great way to ruin a perfectly good walk.

If you need to know how to play a ball that lands in the water, there's the tournament way, which I would need to look up, and the 'we need to finish this hole because there's a foursome riding up our butts' way.

And the mulligan is your friend.
