I’ve received a couple of lovely sympathy cards this week, one from the kennel where I used to board King–and where I take Gaby now for daycare–and another from the vet’s office. The office also sent a lovely little gardenia tree–totally unexpected. But they had taken care of King since he was a pup, and they all liked him.

Gaby played with a boy corgi today. Tuesday, a girl terrier. She’s adjusting, and she sleeps like a rock after dinner. She is eating less these past two weeks, but it’s possible that she ate more when King was around because she knew he would chow down on any leftovers. Bit of competition?

Not that she couldn’t afford to lose a pound or two. But I will feel better when she starts eating a little more again.

I'm so glad you could get her into a program where she has days out with dog friends. So much better than being home alone all day every day.

I was glad, too. It's a good place.

I am still adjusting to Gaby Alone. Not sure how much of the lessened eating is missing King and how much is due to her eating less because she doesn't feel pushed to eat more.

Tomorrow morning, we go for a walk. Then I'm taking her for a ride to the petstore big box, which allows pets inside. Of course, I am wondering whether I'm hitting her with too much change at one time. She rode in the car a couple of times a month when I took King for his exams, etc, so she is used to the car. But she's seeing more people now, new places, and she's been a champ so far.

As long as she seems to be enjoying it, I don't think you're introducing too much change. And you'll notice if she starts stressing--she'll be definite about it, I bet.

The thing is...a human might feel guilty for enjoying getting more of your attention and time, but a dog won't have that problem. She'll just be aware that she's got it, and she'll enjoy it.
