Hard to believe that a week has passed since I developed that cold and griped about being sick. Now I'm pretty much recovered, but tired. Who knows how long this message will run before I run out of steam.

Made my weekly visit to the hardware store, and cashed in my $13 in freebie coupons. Unfortunately, I spent much more than $13 so I didn't really notice the savings. PVC pipe, connections, stuff for the new lawn mower--I bought a new lawn mower, and what's sad is that I'm excited about it--new window well covers, sponges for the kitchen. Glam stuff, just like Brad and Jennifer buy. Grocery shopping followed on the heels of that debauch. Then I let the pups loose in the backyard and commenced the work on the garage that I had wanted to get done last week. Assembled 4 of the 5 boxes of shelving that Dad left. Dragged all the garbage into the middle of the floor so that Dan the Junk Guy will have no trouble telling what to take and what to leave. There's still a load of stuff to sort through along the back wall, old containers of plant food, boxes of junk, wood and metal things the identity of which I have no clue. I'm sure Dad had big plans for this stuff, but I need to be realistic. I am somewhat handy, but I am not Tool Girl, and most of this stuff would just sit and collect dust for another 16 years so I may as well get rid of it.

There's also the old syaing that while one man's trash is another man's treasure, some stuff is still trash no matter how to look at it.

Here's hoping I can finish sorting out the garage tomorrow. Looking forward to dinner--turkey breast baked with dressing, fresh yams, cranberry sauce, red-skinned mashed potatoes. Coconut custard pie for dessert. Fingers crossed that it will be eaten to celebrate a difficult job done well.

And with that, the last puff of steam...drifts...gently...away...

Wow that's a lot of work! Are you renovating? (Forgive the question if it's stupid--I'm new enough here in the journaling not to know some of the ongoing stories.) And who are Brad and Jennifer? (The names gave me a twitch as my little brother was going to be either Brad or Jennifer.)

First off, Brad and Jennifer as in Pitt and Aniston. Hollywood creme-de-la-creme--we shop at the same stores.

Stop snickering out there.

Not renovating, although that may come with time. My Dad passed away in December, and he was a packrat. The house has a full basement and a 2.5 car garage, and both were filled with stuff from wall-to-wall. Mom took the basement, and I took the garage--as soon as the weather warmed, I got to work. The Junk Guy made his initial visit two weeks ago, and carted away two truckloads full of stuff. Looks like one more should do it, she said hopefully. Then I'll be able to think about actually parking vehicles in the place.

It's weird, the things that can make impressions upon you when you visit other homes. I used to walk into other peoples' garages and wonder what it was like to have a neat space with shelves and open floor space and room to park the vehicles. Now, in a little while, I'm going to know.
