Taking Fridays off for the next few weeks, so. My weekend starts a little early.

The whole week was sunny but cool--50s--but things continue to bud. The lettuces are starting to poke through. The hosta leaves are in their 'tight little cigar' stage, and the astilbes are smallish but picking up steam. Hydrangea are leafing. I still have some daffs.

The only downer so far is that the weekend is supposed to be cloudy and rainy, starting tomorrow. So I took advantage of the last sun and worked outside for a couple of hours. I had bought some bags of pine mulch years ago--2004, iirc--and piled about 15 bags against the house, covered by a tarp, for later use. Well, the years passed and the later use became later and later--I am ashamed of how long those bags sat there. I was going to drag them to the curb and stick a Free sign on them, but instead I emptied 12 bags around some yews that I didn't ask the landscapers to mulch. The last 3 bags, I set out on the curb, along with a box of landscape edging. I hope someone can use them.

Tomorrow, I take King to the vet for his special recombinant Lyme vaccine. After that, I'll get the grocery shopping out of the way. Then let it rain. Work to do.

HAWKS WIN!! Oy. Series with Nashville is now tied, 2-2. Back to Chicago.

And now, baking. I need cookies, so I will be making The Best Chocolate Chip Cookie Ever. I'll see about that. But even an average chocolate chip cookie is a Good Thing.
