  • 17:57:42: A half-OK day. On the not-so-OK? King broke a window. That's it. I'm hiding his baseball and bat.
  • 18:24:29: @Wolfefan Yes. The pane cracked but didn't shatter. Double window, so I was able to push it out of the way.
  • 18:54:06: @stuarru Yes. Window didn't shatter. I pushed it open so it's out of his way. Yes, I did have visions of spurting blood. 's why I opened it

Last week, we flirted with the 80s. Tonight, we could have wet snow mixed in with the steady light rain we've suffered through all day. Lows in the 30s. By Friday, however, it should start to dry out. By next week, we could have temps in the 70s again. Maybe even the 80s.

Hoping the lawn dries out enough so that the landscapers can work next week. There will be raking and mulching and seeding done. I may even have them take over the weekly lawn mowing. I usually enjoy mowing--go figure--but these guys edge and clean up branches as they go and in general do all the stuff that I tell myself I will get to later but never do.

Yanno what's funny? I had a hard time getting hold of this landscaper. I saw his name on one of his trucks ages ago, but could never find it in the phone book or online. I finally spotted a truck late last summer, and followed it until I could draw alongside and write down the phone number. He asked me how I had heard about him when he came to assess the yard--I told him, then mentioned his total lack of web/phonebook presence. Turns out he gets all the business he needs via word of mouth. Customer recs. He said that on average, the mailers and cards that other companies put in mailboxes have about a 2% response rate, so he never saw the point in advertising. He also doesn't really like going online. So.

He's a younger man. Just not interested in the tech, and apparently doesn't need it to make a living.

What else? The King Arthur box arrived today. A pound of crystallized ginger. White whole wheat flour, which can be used in place of white all-purpose. Lemon-ginger scone mix. And two packages of their wonderful drinking chocolate, which is imo some of the best munching chocolate I have ever had. Melting it and adding milk would be a waste.

I forgot to mention that I received whole vanilla beans from Penzey's. Now I need to find a suitable recipe.

My right knee is getting better, thank heaven, because if I don't start walking again soon, I'm going to gain back all the weight I lost.
