The day began rainy. Spring rain, though. Not cold. It wets just as good as the cold stuff, though. I think I need a new rain jacket.
Bought orange flowers for the living room, two kinds of tulips and those big daisies. Ceramic pots for some indoor plants that have outgrown their current digs. Groceries. Finally found those drizzle bottles for vinegar and oil--$3 at Target. A small ice cream scoop for metering cookie dough.
Home. Food prep. I had some basil that needed to be used, and a big bunch of curly parsley. Amazed myself that I actually had pine nuts and walnuts in the freezer. So, I dragged out the food processor and made pesto. I hope to grow enough basil this summer to make the all-basil stuff, but the parsley stuff isn't bad. I used some as a spread on a chicken & ham sandwich, and it tasted pretty good.
Then came Raisin Pecan Oatmeal cookies. This dough was thick enough to defeat my hand mixer--I wound up mixing in the raisins and pecans by hand. But after these and the Ultimate Ginger Cookies, I am declaring Ina Garten my cookie sensei. These are the best oatmeal cookies I have ever had. Even the dough was tasty, and I'm not the biggest raw dough fan. Maybe they tasted so good because you toast the pecans before adding them to the dough. Maybe it's the two sticks of butter. I used McCann's Quick Oats, which I think taste better than Quaker's. Turbinado sugar instead of white. Used the small (2") scoop to plop the stuff onto the cookie sheets--much easier than using a tablespoon.
Anyway. Good cookies.
In gardening news, I spottedtwo three teeny basil sprouts in the seed tray. Nothing like two days of unseasonable warmth to kick off the growing. The scatter of crocuses on the east sideyard have opened, and the daffs are getting close to opening as well. Tree branches that were bare a few days ago are studded with buds, and the grass is greening and growing. The sun is out now. Temps are only in the mid-60s, and it's windy. But I have opened the windows and the backdoor, and the fresh air is whipping through.
It's 530 already. Why can't sunny Saturday afternoons last forever?
