...I am now the proud owner of a Red Cross-approved self-powered hand-crank radio, which came as part of a pledge premium. Now I can be assured of picking up that last signal until it dwindles away...

On a cheerier note, I dug a piece of flank steak out of the deep freeze and will be prepping it tomorrowwith a whisky marinade. I say whisky instead of bourbon because I have Canadian Club on hand. I've had it on hand for years now because I'm not much for the hard liquor, and I need to start using it up. And so I will, a quarter cup at a time.

For some reason, I feel as though I've been hit by a truck. I think we'll be popping the vitamin I in a few minutes. Then will come grocery shopping. Laundry. The usual Saturday excitement. I would work outside, but there's a chance of rain later, so we'll see. I may wait until tomorrow, when it's supposed to be sunny.

Over the past week, I have found the bodies of a young bird and a mouse in the backyard. There are a number of feral cats in the neighborhood, but I would think that they'd have eaten things like this. IOW, I have my suspicions about a certain innocent-looking pup, who is currently on the couch beside me, napping.

I picked a handful of Sweet 100s this morning, and managed to dig another red Roma out of the middle of the bush/vine. No sign yet that any of the Black Crim are ripening, but a few are getting pretty big.

The cilantro and parsley look horrid, brownish and weedy with leaves that just will not fill out. I don't know if they're too dry, too wet, or if the weather had something to do with it. They grew almost three feet tall, flowered, and are now covered with seed pods, but that's the extent of it. They look inedible.
