One of the electricians who installed the ceiling fan yesterday has a veggie garden, and asked me if any of my tomatoes had turned red yet. None of his have, and he's concerned that he'll have to pick all the greenies and store them in a covered wheelbarrow until they ripen. That's what he did last year, and he had to hustle and make sauce and can and give away to neighbors because everything ripened at once.

I may be in the same boat. I have 4 Black Crim, a Sweet 100, and a Roma, and they are all laden with greenies. So far, I have harvested two Romas. These were the very first buds, which were buried in the dense center of the bush for so long that they had been damaged by something and had over-ripened. I am picking a few Sweet 100s most every day. Had some tonight, along with my lone banana pepper, which I sliced and put on a turkey burger. It had a little bite, but not a lot of staying power. Given how weak the poor little bush looks, it may be the only one I get. My green pepper is budding quite a bit. Maybe if August is warmer, I'll get something off of that.

It's just finished raining, and is currently about 68F (20C). We're on track for something like the third coolest July on record. I hope August is warmer, but just in case, I better clean out my wheelbarrow.

In other news, I spoke to the roofer today. Looks like I may just need a ridge vent and some soffit vents. Apparently the roof still looks pretty new, which is good considering it's nine years old and part of it is in the shade most of the time.

Gaby has taken to spending most evenings dozing on the couch, next to me. If I've set something on the spot where she usually curls up, she stands in front of the couch and stares at me until I move it. She has me well-trained.

At least she doesn't cuddle against me all the time. It's hard to move around when she does that.

Maybe I wouldn't be so tired if I actually, you know, got some sleep...
