Huge temp swing yesterday as a cold front moved through:

In Highland Park the mercury plunged 28 degrees from 70 to 42 in just 14 minutes .

And it's raining again. Rumors of sunshine this afternoon, with a little bit of a warm-up. Then another cold front moves through tomorrow, with even more rain. I was amazed to see that the basement was dry this morning. I think this is because the ground is no longer frozen and can take up the water more quickly.

Both pups are sound asleep. King had a traumatic time of it. Even distant rumbles of thunder sent him searching for comfort--he kept trying to crawl in my lap, and hurried after me every time I went into another room.

Did have one sign of Spring last night as my throat started itching. It still itches this morning, as does the left side of my nose. Yeah, allergies!

Grocery shopping needs doing. Then I am staying put.

::listening::

I think the rain stopped. It looks brighter outside, and all I hear is the drippy rattle in the gutters. It's supposed to be quite windy this afternoon, though, so it will feel like rain until the water blows out of the branches.

Wish it was Saturday afternoon still. I wish Saturday afternoons lasted for weeks.

The replacement parts for the raised bed arrived yesterday via FedEx. Each corner joint was wrapped in brown paper, and arrived intact.

Initial indications for next weekend call for sunny and 60s. I know that can change in a heartbeat, but I hold out hope that I can get the bed set up then.

In other other news, I am noticing that the seedlings that I moved to peat pots look shorter than the ones in the lighted bed, but also appear sturdier. No, I haven't read detailed instructions as to when to move out seedlings and how high the lamp and so forth. Even if half the sprouts go south, I would still have more than enough veggies, and I haven't even accounted for the green peppers and strawberries, which have yet to arrive.

Next year, I would like to try salad greens...

Joined [livejournal.com profile] maynowrimo, because there is much to be done and I am once more at risk of backing myself into a corner. Wiscon happens in a few weeks, so I don't know how much I will get done during that time. I will take the laptop. Almost hoping for rainy weather, since that would put paid to leisurely walks up and down State Street.

Bad case of the Sunday evening crankies. More rain coming tomorrow, perhaps as much as an inch or two. One of the dogs threw up by the back door. I think it was Gaby, judging from the amount, but I'm not sure. She does have a habit of doing this once every week or so. Could be the grass and dirt she munches on, or excitement, or simply a sensitive tummy. She seems fine otherwise. It's just a little vexing.

Then there's the fact that Monday is coming. With or without rain, not a cause for celebration. I think I'm coming down with something--feels like a cold, but it could be allergies. Mold should be out and about thanks to the rains and warmer temps, and that seems to be what I'm most sensitive to. And Monday's coming--did I mention that?

Maybe a fresh cup of coffee would help...
