My editor emailed me to let me know that I received some good coverage in the October issue of Romantic Times, which features sf/f authors. Very happy to hear it. Thanks to Jack Womack, Eos' dandy publicity guy.

I have a book coming out next month. Life having been what it was, I haven't been able to say that for quite some time.

The weather is gorgeous, 60s and windy and sunny. A few of the sugar maples are starting to turn. I've been hearing Canadas fly over the past few mornings. It's getting to be about that time.

King is still shedding like a shedding thing. I got out the shedding rake and gave him another good brushing tonight, since hair that is removed outside is hair that will not remove itself inside.

One funny thing about King is that he doesn't seem to like it when I remove his collar. When I do, he stands even closer than he usually does, and when I hold it out, he puts his head right in it. I blame his fear of being abandoned in a parking lot, which I told him repeatedly would never be an issue if he would stop chewing on the cedar chest and eating the straps of my clogs. This reasoning, however, doesn't seem to make a dent. No adding two and two for this dog. Math is not a talent.

My dogs are insane.

When Mom would vacuum, they didn't fool around. Both ran to the door as soon as she started taking up the throw rugs, and waited to be let outside. Mickey especially wanted nothing to do with the procedure. The one time Mom vacuumed when I was there, Mickey hid between my legs and made weird grunting-whimpering noises. Hated the thing. Growly hate.

But with me, it's different. They can't figure out what Alpha Dogmom is doing with the weird upright howling thing, and they really need to find out. After three months of dealing with it, they still don't know what the heck is going on. So they follow me around as I go from room to room. King sometimes barks, because that's what he does. Mickey hops around like a little hopping thing, from in front of me to behind, circling the dining room table and hiding behind chairs, then popping out again to see whether what was happening is still happening. I sometimes close the door when I'm in one of the bedrooms to give them some respite from the noise, and when I open the door, there they are, one looking over the other's shoulder like little old ladies in an apartment hallway waiting for the cops to emerge and tell them what happened. I come out, and they stumble over one another getting out of the way. OMG OMG--she's still doing it--it's SO LOUD--bark at it--I am, you fool--she's still doing it--what is she doing-I don't know but she's still doing it--OMG OMG!!!

I turn it off, and they come over and sniff it. When I start it up again, we start over.

They've got me hemmed in at my desk now.

They're insane.
