I tried to construct a poll for this, but the questions were so numerous and nuanced that I figured it would go on forever. So, I'm asking you folks out there who are now or once were freelance, who what when where why? What made you decide to give it a shot? Were you prepared (frex, savings, a client list)? Do you have a spouse/sig fig who has health insurance or who otherwise provides support? Did you ease into it, building it up while ramping down the day job, or did mood/circumstances compel you to jump off the deep end of the pool? How old are you?

If you're a former freelancer, why did you quit?

King's biopsies came back normal. The vet and I talked about the findings--King's stomach apparently contains a Heliobacter-type bug that some dogs have. It usually doesn't lead to ulcers, as H. pylori does with humans. But King's stomach did show signs of an ulcer-like something going on. His intestines also apparently harbor a bug that has been found in dogs that show signs of colitis. The vet said something interesting, namely that they found the bug in the guts of dogs that were living in shelters. Did the bug begin to thrive because the dogs were stressed in the shelter environment?

Anyway, Outdoor King is on his way to becoming Indoor King. He's slept in the house at night since I brought him home from the hospital, and has calmed remarkably. His stomach has settled--he's keeping his food down and his appetite is good. The vet said to keep an eye on him after he's finished his meds. If he shows signs again of digestive upset, or starts to lose weight, we will need to look into matters further. Here's hoping that doesn't happen. I think Mom's illness and the upset around the house contributed to his flare-up.

I was poking through my bank account online when I found that in addition to the three WoW charges that I didn't make, there were three pager calls/whatever from a week earlier, that I also didn't make.

All I wish for people who do those things is that someday someone does it to them, during a time in their life when it's the absolute last thing they need.
