So...

I'll be taking a short leave of absence (as opposed to, say, a leave of presence) from the day job next year. January and February, back to work in early March. Today I worked out the exact dates for HR and Benefits. Blocked out my calendar. Started informing people.

I've needed the break for a while, but my head is finally in the right space where I think I'll make good use of the time. I have a book to finish. Other stuff to write. Things around the house to do.

I am not altogether unmindful of the fact that I will be home during the worst weather months. Depth of snow isn't the only predictor of the possible excitement of the drive--the fraction of an inch we had this morning fell at just the right time (rush hour) at just the right temp (28F) and possessed just the right consistency (think sand on a dance floor) to make driving just a little too exciting. That's ok--I only slid through one intersection. I'll be more alert next time.

But until then...I have three weeks of work time left, and much to do.
