Why I'll Never Be an Acquiring Editor

Tucked on my hard drive is a long, sort of rambling semi-review of The Historian. There it will stay. I'll never be a reviewer, either. I get to a certain point in the proceedings and lose interest. Wonder if the faults I'm finding in the work in question are just as evident in my own books--the mote in their plot and the beam in my own.

I started out wanting to like this book. The reviews I read were uniformly good, and I found the premise interesting.

Shortest form: Plenty of people love this book. I didn't. If I were an acquiring editor and had read this manuscript, I've have offered a low five-figure advance and an axe. So much for my editorial career.

Sunday, such as it was

Day 3 of the 4-day weekend. Didn't go as I hoped, thanks in large part to a sinus headache that started last night, eased up just as I fell asleep, then kicked in again this morning. I've taken ibuprofen and Sudafed, and still feel the pressure. I can't figure out why, though. Whatever rain there was fell well north, and the bp was 30.25 and steady this morning when things really started trying to extrude out my eye sockets and such. So, no bike ride this morning, which was too bad because it was nice outside.

Napped this afternoon. Tried to keep the news feeds to a minimum and tried to write a bit. Am still trying to build up steam on this chapter, during which much is left unsaid seeing as both parties already know all the words.

One more day left on the holiday. Wish it hadn't gone so quickly.
