ksmith: (my bike)
Got my bike ride in this morning. Cloudy morning, temps in the 60s. I raised the seat about a half inch, and I hope that's sufficient. I've reached the point where it's kinda difficult to put my foot down as I'm trying to stop.

Got in a little over 11 miles, about 7 miles of which was that 1-mile circuit with no traffic. I tried something a little different today, riding one half-mile at 10 mph, then speeding up to about 13-14 mph for a half-mile. Finally got the heart pumping a bit, and boy, do I feel it in my legs.

At one point, a young boy on his spider bike rode along the road, and decided to race me. Lesson learned, old lady on Trek will not beat 11 year old with knees like pistons. Not yet, anyway.

Verdict on the shorts--they make a difference. The verdict on the gloves will have to wait because I forgot to put them on.

After the ride came errands and such. Grocery shopping. Went to a nearby Big Hardware Store to see if they had any hanging flower baskets left. They didn't, but I went inside anyway because I needed a power strip and a nightlight.

I really shouldn't enter large hardware stores without a keeper.

Small appliances on sale--got a waffle maker and a sandwich griller. A new toilet seat. Air vent filters. Lawn spinnies, a sunflower with a puppy dog head for a center--yes, Kris does have a tacky side, why do you ask?--and a hummingbird with spinnie wings. To counteract those, I also found an attractive copper disc spinnie which is now adorning the area near the hydrangeas. The copper will probably green up over time. Don't know yet whether I will resort to polish or not.

And, oh yes--I did get the powerstrip and nightlight.

It's now 70ish and cloudy, muggy and still. Rain expected later--it's already raining in the city, and has been for a few hours. Cubs are in rain delay. They've taken 2 of 2 so far from the Cards, the team with the best record in the NL. Prior to that, they had lost 8 in a row, and were swept by the Reds, one of the worst teams in the league. They display a remarkable propensity for playing to the level of their competition, which does not bode well for their wild card chances.

Update: Of course they lost today. So much for the sweep.

New cereal sensations: mango chai and ginger almond granolas.
