And a darned good thing it is.
It did not rain last night, so on the way home from work I stopped at KMart and bought a sprinkler head. After the pups played and were fed, I attached the sprinkler head to the hose and cranked the spigot.
I knew the hose leaked, which it proceeded to confirm. I knew that the spigot was iffy--it does leak, but I'm not sure if it's leaking because I don't have the hose connection tightened enough or because the spigot valve is shot. I need a pipe wrench to tighten everything, but all I could find were the channel locks. Close, but no cookie. Managed to spray myself in the face a couple of times as I struggled to tighten all the fittings. Yet and all, the sprinkler worked pretty darned well. I didn't leave it on for long because it is supposed to rain tonight. If it doesn't, though, we will be spending Saturday afternoon watering the lawn.
We are going to be buying a new hose, though. Along with mulch, edging for various borders, and possibly more lava rock to fill in the gaps where it's gone missing over the years. And a hose rack. And some new covers for the basement window wells to replace the ones that puppies broke during one of their chase sequences.
If you've money to spare, buy hardware store stock.
A royalty check arrived in the mail today--those are always nice. Much of this one will be going to the local hardware store. See the above comment.
Now that taxes are filed, I really need to file away last year's papers and clean up the office. It's reached Hovel Level 3, with stuff piled atop the trash can and in a couple of stacks on the floor. The CI cover painting still resides in its shipping carton. The bookshelves have reached critical mass, having been double-stacked as far as they can be.
The Dream Office is an airy space the approximate square footage of my current house. Fireplace. French doors opening out to the sweeping pavered patio and rolling lawns. Floor to ceiling bookshelves occupy two walls. I have one of those rolling ladders they use in old bookstores to nab books from the upper reaches. My Handsome Young Protege (tm) has already logged all the volumes into the computerized catalog, and it currently installing the wireless networking system.
