Spring?

It snowed earlier this week. T-storms midweek soaked the backyard nicely--we have already received as much rain so far this March as we did through all of last March, which marked the beginning of the Drought of '05.

Today, it's sunny. 50s. Daffodils have just started to poke through. I actually saw a guy applying the Scott's Step 1 to his lawn as I drove to the grocery store this morning. I will hold off doing my lawn until we don't have rain in the forecast.

I'm so disgustingly suburban. I'll say it so you don't have to.

Time to run the pups. Then I'll start spreadsheeting tax info for the accountant. I don't know if I'll get any writing done this weekend, which isn't good. OTOH, I would get my taxes pretty far down the long road to Done, which would be a darned good thing.

Not that I've been ignoring the book. I've been writing during lunch, and I think I have finally figured out What Lucien Wants. It kind of surprised me, and I doubt it's what you're thinking.

It's a relief to hear that there's someone else who works this out midbook.

Heh.

It took me 4 1/2 books to figure out What Lucien Wants. In the earlier books, I felt that I could gloss over it because Mystery was his middle name. But since this is most likely the last book in the series, it won't hurt to settle matters.

It isn't as though he admits anything--he's rather chew off his own leg. But the reader knows, and Jani guesses.

If it will make you feel better, I didn't have the two minor POV characters in CONTACT IMMINENT figured out until February '03. The book was due in March '03, and this was the rewrite. I couldn't nail down those two to save my ass.

I'm very "How can I truly know what they want until I've lived in their heads awhile? And how can I do *that* without writing 60 or more pages?"

This sounds like a big step in the writing of said tome. Hope it's good --

It's a good thing to know now, because I can go back to the beginning and Drop Hints.

It turns out to be a very simple thing. Wouldn't work if he were a true sociopath, but with the engineered version there's some room to maneuver (as I hinted at the ends of LAW and CI, so some precedent there).

And I better stop there.
