Jefferson. Hood. Adams. Mount St Helens. Saw them all yesterday. Couldn’t see Rainier–too much distant haze.

But that was yesterday. Today I awoke to the sound of steady rain. It’s still cloudy, but the sun breaks through on occasion. Chilly. Had a late lunch at the Reedville Inn. Back at the house. Hosts off doing their own thing. I’m surrounded by kitties and pups and watching life on the other side of the glass.

I’m on vacation.

I'm near Portland. I will be here until Thursday morning, at which point I head back to Seattle for Norwescon.

If you can fit a drive in, I-84 to the Columbia River Gorge, visit the waterfalls...even if (especially if) it is raining, also the Old Gorge Road is wonderfully squiggly.

Also, if you have the time, taking (semi)backroads is much more pleasant than tearing up I-5. Granted, weather is likely to prevent access to the more interesting inland routes.

It depends what time I leave in the morning and whether I pick up a panel Thursday afternoon. I would love to take a slow drive...but I am telling myself that this is not the last time I will be out here.
