[livejournal.com profile] matociquala has double-dog dared folks to post horrible early work in honor of International Embarrass Yourself as an Artist Day. So glad I trashed all those early drafts of CODE/GLASS GREEN. Can't find the floppies either. Nope, can't find a thing.

[livejournal.com profile] alfreda89 has old writing assignments of mine stashed for blackmail purposes, however. But shucky darn, she's at a con this weekend.

Hooked all the J5 chapters together last night to see where I stood. I'm currently at about 640 pages/130K words, which is really really bad because I still have some writing to do. Luckily, she said, fingers crossed, I know where I need to compress. I have mentally blocked out the new beginning, which I am not going to touch until I work out the end. Now is the time to write out the political grappling and work out the reasoning, so that when I rewrite I know what to aim for. It would make life easier if I could do this at the outline stage, but it just doesn't work that way.

So, I'll be writing the last few chapters in one long file. Some stretches may consist of dialogue only, although I will try to fill in particular descriptions and important business. One new character, who has only been talked about up to this point, has finally been introduced. Jani doesn't quite trust him--gee, isn't that news?

About 1200 words so far today, to add to the 1600 from last night and the 1000 or so from the night before. Some falldown prior to that--200/500/less than I wanted. But progress was made. I should be happy, I guess.

Back to the day job next Friday. Yes, barring illness or a blizzard, I do have to go back in on a Friday. Needless to say, don't wanna go. Don't know where the past two months have gone.

Back to the job on Friday?! I agree, where has 2006 gone? How can it be nearly March when I'm still trying to remember to write 2006 on my checks?

Hope you were able to accomplish what you wanted to during your sabbatical.

I didn't really, but I had a feeling I wouldn't. I needed two more months. Unfortunately, given how leaves work at my company, my job would not have been guaranteed. Not something I wanted to risk this far down the line.
