Meh. I got "The Hobbit". But I *loved* the Hobbit. (Admittedly, I read it when I was, like, 8. In an illustrated text. But I read the "big kids" version very soon after!)

I'm pretty sure I read Beowulf in an Early English Lit course in college. I don't recall disliking it. Our prof was so enthusiastic--he and his wife used to go on archeological digs, iirc--that it was hard to not give the stories a fighting chance.
