ksmith: (new cut)

It snowed today. An inch or so of fluff, but it's the principle of the thing.

I like what I've written so far today. I like finishing chapters. Now, on to the next one.

I've updated the blog again, this time with more timewasting links and tweaks to headings and such.

Oh, and a week or so ago we got the hair cut. It's short, and I like it lots.

short? I am used to seeing you with beautiful long blonde hair. If I saw you now, I probably wouldn't recognize you. :)

Weren't you at Torcon?? My hair was much shorter then (but still blondish). It was still pretty long at ConJose.

*sigh* I'm a natural brunette, and while people seemed to like me with lighter hair, I never truly adjusted to it. I didn't feel it worked with my skintone, which contains lots of pink. I got bored with the length as well because my hair is thin and stick-straight. I reached the point where I couldn't do much with it. When it's short, it's pretty much wash, 5-minute hair dryer, and go.

Yes I was at Torcon, but your hair was still fairly blonde then, and I recall it still being longish although the exact length has escaped me. I definitely didn't qualify it as short. Then again, that was 2003. Con Jose, it was definitely long and blonde. I thought it looked very nice on you. I don't recall seeing you in Boston and definitely didn't make either Worldcon or Nasfic in 2005. I am hoping to make LA in 2006.

I thought you looked really good with the long blonde hair. I thought it suited you very well and that you were attractive. But since I haven't seen you with short dark hair, I might like that better. I am just having a hard time picturing it. :) I definitely understand the care issues. My long stick straight hair is impossible to do anything with. Basically it is either let it hang or put it in a ponytail. On top of that it is so heavy that it doesn't retain any shape I try to give it and things like barrettes, combs and clips are not up to the task of containing it. I've actually had large banana clips snap under the strain of trying to keep my hair under control. Drying it is a challenge as well. I don't even want to talk about shedding, molting dogs can't out shed me! Vacuuming is always a challenge as the hair clogs the rollers.

From that you would think I would go to a short hair cut, but I do prefer long hair to short in spite of all the hassles. :)

I envy anyone with accessory-devouring hair. I think of the stuff atop my head as dark lint.

At Torcon, my hair was actually chin length or a little longer. I appreciate that you liked it--quite a few folks did. Funny how you can feel uncomfortable with a style or feature even though other people like it.

I'm not sure when I'll be attending Worldcon next. LA is out. Japan is definitely out. Has 2008 been decided yet?

No, they changed the process so that they pick 2 years ahead instead of 3. As a result there was no site selection in 2005. So they will be deciding 2008 this year in LA.

Sorry you aren't going to make LA, and I agree Japan is most likely out of the question. I can't envision having the time and money to go to Japan for a convention, although I would love to do it.

Blonde?

Blonde!

Pictures. I must see pictures!

You are a long-haired brunette in the proposal of a fantasy historical.

I, too, toyed with blonde. Ridiculous how silly men are around blondes. Since I wasn't used to this, being a light-haired brunette, I kept looking around for the blonde they were responding to... (That's blonde as in the feminine of the French blond...)

Long hair has its advantages. I can twist it up suddenly when a Personal Summer is oncoming. I don't have to hold a hair dryer, which is often painful. And I feel less ill-looking with long hair.

More like a hashish-eater or something...

It wasn't really all-around blonde. More like me seriously underestimating the time needed for the streaking kit to do its thing. When the hair got hacked, I let the pros do the coloring.

There are two photos on my website of the old long stuff. The author pic on the homepage. Then, in Writers Corner, the pic of me in SFWA Musketeer narrator gear--white poet's shirt with gold trim--with the hair dragged over one shoulder.

Boy, I need to update the site. It's going to have to wait until after I finish the book, though, because we need new essays and everything.
