ksmith: (snowflakes)

I am now the proud owner of a two-stage snow thrower. It will be delivered on Friday. It didn’t cost as much as I feared. Small comfort, but I guess I’ll take it.

Fall flowers are out. I bought some gorgeous plectranthus baskets , which I hope to transfer indoors when the weather cools. Lovely shades of purple.

The day turned out not so bad. It’s sunny now, and warmer than expected. I might give some shrubs a winter trim, and try to stop thinking about the fact that Kuro may need new tires by year’s end.

It never stops.

I was reading the plant description and nodding until the "It is quite a thirsty plant" came along. I can't grow "thirsty" plants and expect them to survive except in our wettest years. But it's lovely and I wish you the best with it.

Yes, the baskets weighed a ton, and the soil is very wet. It may prove a struggle to keep them inside because of the lousy exposures--one door-width southern window--but I'll try. They caught my eye immediately--shades of lilac, purple, and dark green in charcoal grey baskets. Very rich-looking in comparison to the usual mums.

Not that I dislike mums. I'm sure I will be getting one for the front yard planter. But they're not all that exciting.

I put out the fall wreaths, leaves and berries and little gourds. They're plastic, and a little shopworn, but I think I can get another year out of them.
