A couple of weeks ago, I posted a request for music recommendations. My interests were specifically light pop/electronica, which is what I usually listen to when I write.

Folks provided some good leads. During the first round, I bought a single Tangerine Dream track (Cinnamon Road), and a Dead Can Dance album (Serpent's Egg). Rooting around in related links led me to Balligomingo (Beneath the Surface).

Yesterday I dove into iTunes again. The Chillout compilations were recommended, and I nabbed them both. Also found the latest Saint Etienne, Tales from Turnpike House (hmmm...they don't appear to be with Sub Pop anymore. wonder what that means). Finally, the inevitable linkage following led me to The Thievery Corporation, which seems to put out an interesting combo of jazzy/world-y electronica.

I think I've purchased enough music to last me for a while. Thanks to everyone for their recommendations--I'll be checking into them all eventually.

Wow - did I miss that post? Because somehow I don't recall it. Anyway, for excellent writing music along those lines: Massive Attack. *Mezzanine* is an exceptional album, and *100 windows* is also quite good.

I took note of Massive Attack during my exploration of all those "If You Like Band A, You Might Like This..." links. They're on the list--thanks for the album names.

Heh, I'm starting to call music collections 'albums' again. "CDs" no longer seems appropriate since I seldom buy them anymore.

It's just this side of being alternative electronica - mostly very low key, just interesting enough to be engaging without being so cool that it's distracting. It's my stand-by writing music (that, and Dead Can Dance, actually).

;-)

Could you post the compliled list? And comment on the ones you acquired? I'm always looking for a good writing "album."

I'll do this in a fresh post so that it doesn't get buried in the comments.

But first, to the dogs...
