NADWcon this 'n' that
Jul. 16th, 2011 02:16 pmI can't believe that one week ago today, I was smack dab in the midst of the con. An hour of so away from Neil & Sir Pterry.
Things I skipped in previous posts:
Denise Connell is a wonderful organizer, and I would happily work with her on some future con. There, I said it.
All the panels I sat on were so well attended, even the ones on Monday. Dave Godwin is a dandy moderator--get an LJ account so you can comment, you guy--and the Science of Discworld and Victorian Internet panels were packed and great fun besides.
If you visit Madison, I *highly* recommend The Icon, a tapas restaurant on State Street.
arcaedia ate there during a conference a year or so ago, and rec'ed it highly, and I can't but agree. Good food. Good atmosphere. Did I mention good food?
And if they offer the "Sexy" wine (pinot noir or shiraz? Leaning toward shiraz but can't recall for sure because I stink at remembering), get it. I chose it because, well, Blue Box on the Brain, but Dave G and John Allen (and Marilyn Bunzo--did you imbibe?), who shared the bottle, commented on the fineness.
I ordered dulce de leche cake for dessert. I didn't realize that it came with a matching dulce de leche martini--when the bartender brought the drink, I sent it back and the server had to explain it to me. My verdict? Order it. Share the cake and keep the martini for yourself.
I had a great time. I would so attend again, and rec this con highly to any Discworld fans out there. The next one in the US will be in 2013. Be there or be a four-sided square thing.
