My "dining room" is actually more of a dinette area. A regular-size dining table w/ 6-8 chairs can't fit, so I have one of those small 4-chair tables. Maybe 30" x 30"?
The magazines, mail, receipts, etc had piled up over the last few months, leaving me a laptop-size area to eat/work. I thinned the easy stuff last week. Today, I snapped, dragged in the recycle bins, and trashed unread magazines, catalogs from which I did intend to buy stuff--I tell myself I'll remember what I want. Sorted receipts for filing. Dragged out the shredder from the office, and shredded what needed shredding. It took over an hour and a half to clear off that small table. Filled two standard size bins to the halfway point. I could have fit everything in one bin, but I wouldn't have been able to lift it.
One year of Wine Spectator out the door, unread. I received it as a gift sub when I pledged support for the local classical station, so it's not...yes, it is a waste. Yet when I sub to online magazines, I don't read them, either. Granted, at least I'm not killing any trees.
And over the course of the clean-up, I uncovered the broccoli raab seeds that I intended to plant with the lettuces. Got them out there in time for a watering by a passing shower.
