Another quota met yesterday. 1367 words. I could have kept going, but it was 1am and I could barely keep my eyes open. Even so, my brain kept churning, so that I was still awake at 2am, at which point Mickey came in to let me know that he needed to go out. This dog waits until I turn out the light, which I believe is his revenge for the fact that I am spending altogether too much time in h/i/s b/e/d/r/o/o/m/ my office.

One thing I'm grateful to have working again is The Voice. This isn't the Editor On My Shoulder that tells me it's all crap and I should just give it up now while I still have my pride. Instead, it's more like the prompter in the orchestra pit, nudging me as I go. "This scene is running long--wrap it up." "Don't start this chapter with exposition--open with dialogue." "Who's in the room?" (goes back and drops in names at appropriate intervals) "Where is this conference room, exactly?" (goes back and drops in location)
"They've been talking long enough--Trouble knocks on the door now." (adds Trouble)

It seems obvious, I guess, that this Voice exists. It's just been awhile since it's been so active. Add to this the fact that the quota is getting easier to meet, which I think means that I can start nudging things up a bit. I'd love to bump up to ten pages/day. A chapter every two days would prove an elegant sufficiency.

In other news, went to the day job today to attend a meeting. I would have liked to avoid stuff like this if possible, but the meeting concerns a project that's in my 2006 goals, so I sorts kinds need to be involved. Another meeting next Tuesday. With luck, that might wrap it up, but I'm guessing I'll have to go in a few more times before my official restart date.

In other other news, the weather today was insane. This is northern Illinois. This is mid-January. Temps hit the mid 50s (12-13C). Blue sky sunny. At least one major golf course --Cog Hill-- opened up to allow play. We get back to reality tomorrow when highs drop to the 30s (1-2C), but still. There's no snow on the ground, and areas of the lawns are still green.
