Workspaces
Jan. 5th, 2006 02:07 pmTobias Buckell is asking folks for links to photos of their workspaces, if they're so inclined. I'm in "gearing up to write" mode, and since the place has looked worse than it does now, I thought why not?
My office is a converted third bedroom. Think tiny. Along with the desk, I share space with three bookcases (you can see parts of two of them in the foreground), a 4-drawer file cabinet (can't see that), and for the last few weeks and the foreseeable future, Lurch the Folding Treadmill. Having Lurch in here is kind of a drag, but the basement isn't an option and there's no room in any of the other upstairs rooms. So, I get to walk/jog while listening to my music library on the iMac. There are worse circumstances.

My desk is not in the command position as described by Steve Pavlina. That's because I'd rather face the view, such as it is. My house faces north, and the ambient light varies from bad to northern Finland in midwinter. The empty macrame plant holder hanging above the iMac is currently awaiting a potful of silk flowers because the only live things I could grow in that corner are mushrooms and they don't particularly liven a place up.
The box on the floor to the right of the desk contains all the papers and junk I shoveled off the desk a few weeks ago. Still haven't gotten 'round to emptying it. Such is my shame.
All in all, it's not a bad place to work.
