Even though my leave doesn't officially start until next week, I thought I'd start this week with the Big Push. My goal is 5 pages/1250 words a day. I will need to do better than that eventually, but we're going to start slow.

Yesterday's total was 1297 words. One dawdled and dicked about until after midnight, and thus technically did not meet one's promised output of 5 pages/1250 words. But one is still insisting one hit one's mark, and the hell with it.

And today I get to hit the reset button and start all over again.

it is not easy to be Jani's friend. I'm just saying.

The day doesn't start and end at midnight; it ends with going to bed and it starts with getting up. In my opinion.

I guess this raises the question of how you calculate an all-nighter, but that's beside the point for me; I completely lose all ability to string words together coherently after a certain point. I also lose the ability to focus my eyes on a screen. This was true back in college when I was 21 years old and regularly stayed up all night to be social, so I can't imagine how bad it would be now.

I have more problem focusing on the screen in the morning, but I blame that on middle aged eyes and progressive lenses.

When left to my own devices, my clock seems to shift to go-to-sleep-at-1-or-2am and awaken-at-9-or-10am. Late in the evening seems to be a good work time--dogs are taken care of, meals are out of the way, and the house is quiet. It didn't used to be this way. I was an afternoon writer until I needed to take over doing other stuff as well.

Yeah, but you're day-jobbing it this week. Day jobs eat your life.

Thanks--I'll need them. Because as I think I've mentioned before, distractable as a cat...

I won't be using them until the 9th, so I figure they might as well go to my friends.

Even though my leave doesn't officially start until next week,

For how long? Paid, or not? (Can you tell I haven't been reading LJ, much less SF-FFW?)

January and February. I use up my vacation time during January, so it's paid. February is leave time, and it's unpaid.

Is this primarily to finish the latest Jani novel?

Yeah. I just wasn't getting anywhere when I tried to tuck in the writing at the end of the day. I needed unbroken stretches of Time.

Good idea--I hope it goes so well, you can also start something new!
