Aromas of garlic have abated somewhat, overtaken by the more mild onion aromas, along with an undercurrent of cherry.

I should become a paid spokesperson for the Cherry Growers, I'm talking up cherries so much.

A good morning, though sucky weatherwise--still damp/dreary/melty, which will change to flinging muddy once the Boyz run out to play. It's too early to deal with thaw mud, I"m telling you.

I usually give my Mom clothes, but this year I did something different. A few weeks ago, she had shown me an ad for an inexpensive keyboard. Seems that she used to pick out tunes on an old organ Dad had claimed from some place years ago. The organ went south, and they never replaced it. Now, Mom was itching to get back to it again.

Well, the drugstore model she showed me was pretty much a kids toy, so I went a few steps up and bought a Casio keyboard with prerecorded songs and a metronome and the whole thing. It has a stand, can run on batteries, and so help me weighs no more than 5 pounds. It's a hit--I can hear the working-out of some old tune even as I type. So, I guess I done good.

In a complete spit-in-the-eye toward the Victoria-has-no-more-Secrets-how-can-she-in-that-bra?-ad, I received all things that I needed, and I was glad. A few sweatshirts, jammies, slippers, and a vanity mirror. I still need to hang this years Bing & Grondahl Christmas plate. There are more than 15 years' worth on the walls already, but it takes a lot to overwhelm three dark wood walls, a stone floor-to-ceiling fireplace, and a beamed tongue-in-groove cathedral ceiling. I still haven't managed. All the pictures that are hanging have wide gilt frames. One print is a Raphael Madonna that would overwhelm most rooms--here, it doesn't even dominate its section of the wall. I still need to get the Kinuko Craft Turandot print framed. More gilt, I think. It's the only way.

New music being played--"Takk" by Sigur Ros. I can write to this stuff. I am happy.

Sounds like you and your mom got the ideal hauls. Enjoy the new jammies!

I will. They're fleecy velour (sounds like the name of a stripper)--very soft.

The 2005 plate or the 2006 plate?

Growing up, my neighbor had some of these plates hanging on the kitchen wall. I loved them, but no idea if her sons kept them or sold them. Had no idea they were valuable, then.

Glad it was a good holiday!

The 2005 Plate--a family carting home the Christmas tree aboard a sleigh.

I don't know how well the plates keep their value. We just developed a liking for them.

The 2006 has geese flying, among other things--very nice.
