Thursday evening
Dec. 22nd, 2005 09:37 pmTomorrow is my last official day at the day job until March 3, 2006. Two months of leave, to be spent hammering/cobbling/tweaking/forcefeeding/ramrodding J5 into reasonable shape. The goal is to have a solid draft for beta readers by the end of February. I am hoping that it's solid enough that it won't require major editing after it goes to editor, but she is good at zeroing in on the weak subplots and asking the questions that lead to serious rewriting.
I know that's her job, but damn.
And you know what's scary? I know just how quickly those two months are going to fly.

Date: 2005-12-23 03:33 pm (UTC)It's vital to have a supportive manager.
I really wanted another month or two, but then I'd run into the issue that my job wouldn't be guaranteed. I can't afford to risk that now, so I settled for the shorter time.
I wish there was some sort of sabbatical allowance here. I know some companies offer them, but they're not common.
Do you have *any* idea how jealous I am?!?
I so need the break. Even though I'll be working my butt off, I need the break.

I know you'll work your butt off, but it'll be a different type of working - one that you'll thrive under! Best of luck!
