Saw Sting last night at Ravinia.
The Trib's review is here, and I can't say I disagree much. The show didn't catch fire for me until the last half hour, when Sting sang "King of Pain" and "Every Breath You Take." I admit that I am not an avid fan. I didn't recognize many of the songs, unlike my friend L-, who knew them all but one. But I'm still glad I went. We had really good seats--end of the 6th row, which felt more like the 2nd row because the first several rows angle in, so only one row of folks sat directly in front of us. I liked Sting's patter about the various songs, and adored the Philharmonic's conductor, Steven Mercurio. Got some decent pictures. Here's the set list from a show in Portland, which pretty well mirrored ours. That reviewer noted as well that the show snapped to life during "King of Pain."

As for the weather, well, at least it didn't rain. Temps in the high 80s, close to 90F, and sooo muggy. L- and I parked at an overflow lot about 2 miles away and rode the shuttle bus to the Park. Then we backtracked a half-mile to have dinner at Abigail's, a really nice neighborhood bistro. We got back to the Park about a half hour or so before showtime. After the show, we got some unintended exercise when we took the wrong exit and missed getting a decent spot in the line for the shuttle buses--by the time we made it back, the line snaked like a snaky thing. We thought about catching a cab, and walked back to the restaurant to phone for one. But by the time we got there, we realized that temps had cooled and other folks were walking as well, so we decided to just keep going. It took a half-hour to reach the lot, but we figured that we would have waited that long, if not longer, in the bus line, so.
