ksmith: (sprout)

While I was gone, weather fluctuated between warm-to-hot and sunny and cool and rainy. The Black Crim tomatoes seemed to have tripled in size, the parsley and cilantro exploded, and even the sage perked up.

The lower deck: Front row: cilantro, teeny tiny thyme, curly parsley. Tweeny row: ridiculously small chives, sage. Second row: kohlrabi. Third row: Black Crim tomatoes.

Th upper deck: Front row: Two Black Crim, then the storebought Sweet 100s plant. Middle row: squash and zucchini. Back row" teeny tiny cantaloupe sprout, storebought Roma tomato plant

The baskets:

Strawberries--of the 25 plants, about 1/3 of them croaked. I'll replace them next year.

Herbs--they all look pretty good, although the basil (behind the cilantro) browned due to overwatering and needed to be trimmed.

The deck planter is a muddle, because some of the seeds that I thought weren't coming up got mixed in with the seeds I replaced them with.

The Sweet Italian basil looks nice. I should have planted that instead of the Lettuce Leaf variety.

There's also dill, and either cilantro or curly parsley, and LL basil. There are supposed to be chives as well, but they take forever to sprout.

In other news, two loads laundry done. Cookies baking--double chocolate chunk from some ready-made dough courtesy of a friend's son's school fundraiser. Yesterday, chopped up the leftover roast chicken and made Ina Garten's Chicken Salad Veronique, which means grapes and fresh tarragon. The tarragon adds a lot of flavor. Between the garlic flavoring in the chicken and the tarragon, I think this is the best chicken salad I have ever had. Used a new storebought mayo that is made with olive oil. Given that homemade mayo is made with olive oil, I don't know what the big deal is, but it has a smoother taste than the usual stuff.

Work now.

Monday tomorrow. Dammit.
