Snow day

At the rate things are going, I'm going to use up all my vacation days before the first day of Spring...which can't come soon enough, btw.

I could have made it to work this morning, but at the end of the day I wouldn't have been able to pull into my driveway. The snow didn't really start falling with intent until 8-9am, but when down it came, it did so at more than an inch an hour. 5" or so, total. After it ended around noon, I went out to shovel the deck. I was going to call Snowplow Guy to do the driveway, but the snow was light and I thought I'd save a few bucks.

Two and a half hours later...

It was a weird snow, light, but distinctly unsticky. This was nice in that it didn't build up on the shovel at all. It wasn't so nice in that when I tried to push it, it tumbled away from both sides of the shovel, then sort of filled in the groove as I went. Since I couldn't push it easily, it took me a while to get to the end of the driveway and the damned dam left there by the Dept of Public Works. But, as I said, light snow, so even the packed stuff wasn't too bad.

So everything is nice and clear, for now, at least. We're supposed to get another 2-4" tonight, but the bulk of the snow is supposed to shift south so maybejustmaybe I won't get pummeled again. If we do get pummeled, I will be calling Snowplow Guy because I'm not doing this again. I don't think my shoulders could take it. They're letting me know that they're not happy, and the heating pad is being applied.

The pups, of course, were outside with me. Ice boogers were hanging off Gaby's coat within minutes, but smooth-coated King just got a little wet. Tag and barking, barking and tag, while I shoveled shoveled shoveled. Now they're both sleeping. I want to be reincarnated as a dog from a good home.

I won't be receiving a revision letter until next week, but Editor did provide some preliminary comments which will give me something to think about over the weekend. In preparation for the work ahead, I will be making a batch of Jay Lake's Ginger-Chocolate Chip Cookies. I'd have made them tonight, but I have no fresh ginger and the food sites I checked don't advise substituting ground ginger for fresh. So, I need to shop tomorrow. Then there will be baking. And thinking.
