I forget which company--Staples? Target?--had a commercial that ran in early August a few years back. You see a man with a shopping cart waltzing down the store aisles while "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" plays.
The first time I saw this, I started screaming at the TV: "It's AUGUST! What is wrong with you people!!"
And then the camera pulls back, and you see two adolescent kids sulking along behind the dad, and the voiceover talks about a back-to-school sale. I nearly hurt myself laughing. I hope the ad exec who thought of that one got a bonus.
I dodge the Christmas Music Twitch by playing my iTunes library on random, so I get the occasional Christmas song all year long. In fact, "Father Christmas" by the Kinks just started up. Though that's a bit of an anti-Christmas song.
That was a Staples ad. I -still- have allergic reasons to "Back to School" and figure that I probably always will, and was acutely uncomfortable at a New England folk arts festival because it was in a high school, even though I got out of h/e/l/l public school a long time ago.
The Staples ad I really liked was one which showed a man sitting in front of a office desk, saying, "I told my wife that if she could get a higher paying job than I, I'd stay home with the kids," and then there's the sound of a baby crying and up the fellow gets and runs to deal with the situation.
