I really don't have much to add to what others have said. Hoping for the best, and very, very afraid that we won't get it.

I grew up in Florida. 17 years spent on the mid-Gulf Coast, 1964-1981, from Fort Myers up to Port Charlotte/Punta Gorda. College in Tampa. I remember my folks prepping for hurricanes, my Mom taking me to the hospital where she worked while Dad stayed at the house. All we ever had to deal with were the equivalents of bad t-storms--lots of rain, some wind. Some seepage through what we learned were cheaply-built walls. A few lost awnings and flooding of really low-lying areas. Nothing like Katrina. Not even close.

This is eerie. Thanks to tech, we all have ringside seats for this one, and there isn't a whole lot we can do except watch.

But Lyndon pointed out something very worrisome -- what about the stadium's foundations? Can they handle something like this?

He's not the only one thinking that at the moment.

Given the water table in the area, the foundation -ought- to be waterproofed and water resistant. But "ought" is not definitive....

I went to a football game in there long ago. It's sort of startling, realizing it's more than 30 years old--that's older than the torn-down-and-replaced-due-to-obsolencence privately built stadium in Foxboro that the New England Patriots played in for a number of years, the current stadium is one built this decade, again with private funds.

The Superdome didn't impress me for accommodation--big concrete ugly inside noisy thing, with steps designed for people Jani's height or taller....
