I spent 4 hours yesterday shoveling snow, raking part of my roof, and chipping ice out of gutters. This was because we wound up getting 6 inches of snow instead of the 1-3" originally predicted. Oops. Now everything's clear and ready for the stuff we're supposed to get later this week. I am officially sick of Winter. It can stop anytime now.

Took Kuro to the repair place this morning, all the while wondering how I would get home in the evening if something proved wrong, and how I would juggle getting Kuro home after he was fixed--take the train in or drive Harrison, then leave him at work overnight, yadda yadda. Turned out to be a non-issue. Nothing wrong with the U-joints. In fact, according to the mechanic, Kuro is in "great shape." He did find a bolt missing on the lower engine cover--the noise may have been caused by the loose cover rattling around. I didn't hear it when I drove in, of course, and the mechanic couldn't reproduce it, of course. So he replaced the bolt and that was that.

I have a nice, long holiday coming up--after Friday, I won't have to go back to work until January 2nd. One thing I really need to do is file receipts and get ready for 2007 taxes. My desk is a mess again. I haven't balanced my checkbook in months, and I'm not going to bother catching up. I'll just start fresh in '08, she said with a hope-filled lilt in her voice.

I'm also debating whether to start in on GIDEON, or give myself a break until January 2nd. I am going to have to adhere to a fixed schedule if I'm going to get this book done by summer. Three hours every weekday evening, from 8-11, needs to be spent writing, along with goodly chunks of the weekend. I will need to curtail my online bouncing around. I'll have breaks in March for the Ninc Conference and in May for Wiscon. I would love to be done by Worldcon, but we'll see.

I can hear it already. The rumble of an approaching deadline, like distant thunder.
